Around 100 alumni, current students and staff attended the third annual alumni networking event hosted by the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance on 9 May.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Stefan Braum, welcomed guests, highlighting the important contribution that the University’s alumni are making to the country. “The reputation we gain is because of you and the great job that you do,” he said. In addition to academic knowledge, it is the University’s mission to teach tolerance, working in an international environment, thinking critically and being open for change, Prof. Braum pointed out. “We rely on you and the things you will build to defend these values.”

The Faculty in 2015 launched its annual networking event allowing alumni to connect with one another as well as members of partner companies, and to catch up with their former teachers. Students in their final year were also invited to attend to start building a professional network.

Two former students shared their experience as graduates of the University of Luxembourg. Daniele Antronaco, who completed the Master in Accounting and Audit in 2014, spoke highly of his time studying at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, explaining that not only the quality of the programme was excellent but that the friendships forged during this time lasted until today. He also congratulated the Faculty on its growing alumni network. “Opportunities can open up through friends or former colleagues,” he said. “An alumni network can be a great propeller.”

Alumna Sophie Rezki outlined her path following her graduation from the Master in European Banking and Financial Law in 2011, which took her to the US for a second degree in law at the University of California, Berkeley (USA), and a job at a law firm in Chicago, before coming back to work in Luxembourg. “This path was possible because of the international outlook of the University,” she said.

Guests also heard from Valérie Arnold of the Luxembourg branch of international charity “Toutes à l‘école”, which raises funds to provide access to schools for girls in Cambodia. She encouraged graduates to look beyond their professional careers and get involved in a cause and use their skills and privileged situation in life to help others.

The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance would like to thank all alumni and guests for making our third networking event a success. If you are a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, register to receive updates via email. For more information, please visit our alumni webpages.
