SUSTAINLUX
Against the backdrop of the recent economic and demographic development dynamics and the strong pressure on land resources and provision of infrastructure, the study of sustainable development in Luxembourg is an evaluation of existing planning policy instruments and governance patterns with respect to urban and regional social spatial transformation in the Grand Duchy in general, and of housing policy and transport in particular. Rather than examining sets of indicators or inquiring how to best fill the sustainability gap, this project intends to illuminate problems and conceptual issues concerning urban regions and urban space, and to take a critical look behind governance, and normative orientations in policy making such as sustainable development.
This research is generously supported by the CORE program of the Fonds National de la Researche Luxembourg, and was conceived in cooperation with the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung, in Leipzig. The project also collaborates with both the Conseil Supérieur pour un Développement Durable (CSDD) as well as the Conseil Supérieur de l’Aménagement du Territoire (CSAT), who signalled their strong interest and offered practical support. The project will be carried out over a duration of three years (2010-2013).

ESPON Database and Data Development
At the European level several initiatives have been carried out to improve data comparability and data quality. Against this background, the ESPON Database project plays a crucial role to maintain, update and expand the previous database resulting from the ESPON 2006 Programme. Hence it will include data from ESPON applied research projects as well as relevant regional data in the field of European territorial development and cohesion. This has significant gains for the policy debate as it provides input for analysis based on territorial indicators and indices. The database will be accessible to the general public and dissemination is envisaged through the ESPON website. [ more ]

Negotiating Border Regions: Spatial Planning Processes in Luxembourg and the Greater Region (NEBOR)
NEBOR investigates cross-border spatial development in the Greater Region focusing on the roles of multiple actors and spatial levels in decision-making processes using case studies from Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Conceptually, it draws on governance and institutional approaches to emphasize the importance of informal, non-regulatory and non-economic forces that inform, supplement, override or even replace formal decision-making. ESPON-Projekt Metroborder

IDENT – Identités socio-culturelles et politiques identitaires au Luxembourg
IDENT ist ein interdisziplinäres Forschungsprojekt der Unité de Recherche IPSE und nimmt Identitätskonstruktionen in Luxemburg in den Blick. Auf konzeptioneller Ebene wird das Verständnis für identitätsbildende Prozesse vertieft, auf empirischer Ebene werden die Wechselwirkungen und Brüche zwischen kollektiv und individuell angeeigneten Identitäten einerseits und politisch-medial zugeschriebenen Identitäten andererseits im Großherzogtum aufgedeckt. Luxemburg Atlas / Atlas du Luxembourg
Stadt und Land in beeindruckenden Karten – Das Standardwerk zum Großherzogtum.
Luxemburg – als Kleinstaat und Großherzogtum, als Gründerstaat der Europäischen Union und internationaler Finanzplatz – ist reich an Geschichte und Geschichten. In knapp 100 Beiträgen von mehr als 70 Autorinnen und Autoren aus Wissenschaft, Planung und Kultur, werden vielfältige Themen in eindrucksvollen Karten, Luftbildern und Fotos sowie in französischen und deutschen Texten präsentiert. Damit bietet der Atlas überraschende Einblicke und fundierte Informationen zu Geschichte, Stadtentwicklung, Umwelt, Mobilität, Gesellschaft und Kultur eines faszinierenden Raumes in der Mitte Europas.
