Congratulations Class of 2020

Dear 2020 graduates,

When you started at the University of Luxembourg, the idea that the last months of your studies would be held only online due to a global pandemic would have been totally inconceivable. Yet that is exactly what happened to you and pretty much every other 2020 graduate across the world.

The resilience that you have shown in the face of this unprecedented adversity has been impressive and will serve you well as you embark on your professional careers. While hopefully you will never have to experience something at this scale again, the “real world” that you are now part of, or will become part of, will continually challenge you in ways expected and unexpected. Your ability to persevere and to be resilient will be keys to your success.

You have experienced how multilingual the university environment is and I would like to borrow a phrase from German, which applies to you as you now become part of our alumni network: “Glück im Unglück”. The gist of the translation is being lucky in the middle of being unlucky.

While you were definitely unlucky in having your Graduation Ceremony postponed until May 2021, there is a lucky element involved as well since the GradPack for new alumni is nearing completion and many elements will be made available retroactively to the class of 2020.

What is the GradPack? It is a package of discounts and networking memberships that will help you get started as you establish yourselves in the professional world. You may be leaving (or already have left) the university, but the university is not leaving you ;).

When we’re ready to launch, 2020 graduates will receive an e-mail with details on how to register. In the meantime, make sure that we can reach you by sending us your updated contact details, as well as any ideas and suggestions, to alumni@uni.lu
