The course will focus on the modelling of migration intentions, a relatively recent type of outcome measure.
The first part will be devoted to the presentation of the migration intentions
- How can we measure migration intentions?
- How does it differ from actual migration movements?
- What are the main determinants of these intentions and how does it differ from findings on actual movements of people?
- Presentation of the Gallup World Poll survey and presentation of its limitation.
The second part will be devoted to more exploratory issues related to the modelling approach :
- Failure to account for the hypothesis of independence of irrelevant alternatives (IIA) in the modelling of migration intentions (and movements).
- Accounting for violations of IIA within the Random Utility framework: a cross-nested approach.
- Going beyond the RUM model: accounting for attraction effects.
