Doctoral Applicant: Applying for Admission

Interested in applying for a doctorate at the University of Luxembourg?

Here is how you should proceed in four steps:


1. Choose your dissertation discipline

The disciplines in which you can carry out your doctoral research and studies & graduate include:

2. Find your supervisor

We recommend you contact potential supervisors from the lists below by e-mail to discuss your general research interest areas and your specific ideas for a dissertation topic. You may consider sending along a description of the research project and your CV.

If you and your future dissertation supervisor would like to pursue the joint supervision option, this should be indicated during the application for admission.


3. Secure funding

There are several ways you can fund your doctorate.

Please note that all doctoral candidates at the University of Luxembourg are primarily students, irrespective of how their dissertation is funded.


4. Start the enrolment procedure

You—as doctoral applicant—are invited to:

  1. fill out the online enrolment form;
  2. print the completed form;
  3. follow the instructions to compose your application file.

Admission requests are treated on a rolling basis by the Office of Doctoral Studies (Bureau des études doctorales, BED).

You will be informed of the decision concerning your application request within 3-4 weeks after submission of a complete application.

If you are accepted, you will be contacted by the Office of Doctoral Studies (Bureau des études doctorales, BED) to formally register.
