João Vasconcelos graduated in Law at the Lisbon University in 2009 and holds a Diplôme d’Études Supérieures (DESUP) Juridiques et Économiques de L’Union Européenne from the University Paris I Panthéon – Sorbonne. Over the last 20 years he has held several para-legal and legal positions in both the NGO sector and the European Administration and has carried out freelance legal research and translation. João Vasconcelos joined the University of Luxembourg as a research specialist in September 2022.

Para-legal and legal positions held in his previous appointments include legal assistant and legal consultant at the Portuguese Council for Refugees, Quality Management Officer on Migration and Asylum at the European Commission (EUROPAID) and lawyer linguist at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). At the University of Luxembourg, he is research specialist for the Focal Point in Luxembourg of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRANET).
