Karinne started her PhD at the beginning of July 2021. Her research is focused on digital cities. As part of her PhD, she is working on the research project "Digital Urban Development - How large digital corporations shape the field of urban governance (DIGI-GOV)" led by Dr Constance Carr.  Karinne comes from Mauritius and did her Master in Architecture, European Urbanization and Globalization at the University of Luxembourg.

After completing her secondary education in Mauritius in 2004, Karinne moved to the UK to study architecture at Newcastle University. She developed an interest in the relationship between the built environment and social change during her studies and worked as a trainee architect for a housing association in Newcastle for about a year after completing her degree.  Back in Mauritius in 2008, she worked with communities living in informal settlements on slum upgrading and social housing projects.  Over the years, she also worked on a variety of other projects ranging from the renovation of the Bank of Mauritius to luxury gated communities.  Seeking to deepen her understanding of the socio-political underpinnings of land use and inequality that she observed while working in architecture, she decided to do a Master in Development Studies at the University of Mauritius between 2012 and 2014.  After working in architecture for several years, she finally had the opportunity to come to Luxembourg to pursue her academic goals in 2019 and is now happy to be part of the DGEO team.
