Linnet has joined the UL as a PhD researcher through the support of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) and their Young Academics programme for interdisciplinary research. She is pursuing research at the cross-section between climate, gender and finance with the project ‘Microfinance and Transformative Inclusion: Gendered Approaches Targeting Environmental Resilience in Small Island Developing States’ (MITIGATER) (supervisors: Harlan Koff and Conchita D’Ambrosio). Her interests lie in studying the ways in which social, economic and environmental systems are integrated, and how vulnerability in one system can impact the others.
Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, her background is originally in International Relations and Political Science, specialising later in International Cooperation and Development. She obtained her Masters degrees in the framework of a tripartite programme, jointly delivered by the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Bordeaux (Sciences Po Bordeaux) in France, the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Jamaica and the Université des Antilles (UA) of Martinique. Passionate about development, before joining the university she worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s programme for Archipelagic and Island States on the topic of ocean sustainability and the blue economy. Prior to that, she worked on climate and development finance with the European Investment Bank (EIB) as part of their Africa Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) traineeship programme. Finally, she has also worked as a research assistant on several occasions, conducting gender and policy analysis in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region.
