Education & Society
The Institute of Education and Society offers multidisciplinary perspectives on education: we draw on diverse fields of knowledge including sociology and educational sciences, cultural studies, theory and history of education, comparative education, inclusive education, (political) economy, psychoanalytics, science and technology studies, and sustainability science.
Several research strands focus on education, teaching and learning processes and education systems in their cultural, political, and economic contexts from cross-national and/or comparative perspectives, emphasising historical and spatial comparisons.
Multiple levels of analysis in current research on education include the macro level of educational policy and the emergence or development of school systems and of other educational structures, the meso level (institutions), and the micro level of child rearing, education, teaching and learning, as well as how these levels mutually affect each other.
