Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) - Compustat

Compustat is the standard academic data source for company-level fundamentals. It contains the following modules:

• Compustat North America: a database of U.S. and Canadian fundamental and market information on active and inactive publicly held companies. It provides information from Income Statements, Balance Sheets, Statements of Cash Flows, and supplemental data items. It also contains information on aggregates, industry segments, banks, market prices, dividends, and earnings.
• Compustat Bank: contains bank-level fundamental information on commercial banks and savings institutions.
• Compustat Historical Segments: provides business and geographic detail, product information and customer data for over 70% of the companies in the North American (NA) database.
• Execucomp: provides executive compensation data of over 3400 U.S. companies, both active and inactive. The universe of firms covers the S&P 1500 plus companies. Data is collected directly from each company’s annual proxy (DEF14A SEC form). Detailed information on salary, bonus, options and stock awards, non-equity incentive plans, pensions and other compensation items are available.
• Capital IQ People Intelligence: covers over 4.5 million professionals and over 2.4 million people including private and public company executives, board members, and investment professionals, globally. Each professional in the Capital IQ database has a distinct profile which can include contact details, biography, education, job functions and titles, board memberships, compensation, insider activity, and options holdings.

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) - CRSP

The Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP) maintains the most comprehensive collection of security price, return, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stock markets. Additional CRSP files provide stock indices, beta-based and cap-based portfolios, Treasury bond and risk-free rates, mutual funds, and real estate data. CRSP is a standard database used in academic research across finance and economics departments. It is also widely applicable for educational purposes.

The modules of CRSP to which we currently subscribe are as follows:

• US Stock Database: provides a unique research source, widely recognized for its breadth, depth, and completeness. The CRSP US Stock Database contains prices on all listed NYSE, Amex, and NASDAQ common stocks along with basic market indices, and includes comprehensive distribution information. The Stock databases comprises Security Files, Events, and Portfolio Assignments modules.
• CRSP Indices Database: serves as benchmarks for the investment community, and as a foundation for academic research. It contains five groups of CRSP indices: the CRSP Stock File Indices, the CRSP Cap-Based Portfolios, the CRSP Indices for the S&P 500 Universe, the CRSP Treasury and Inflation (CTI) Indices, and the CRSP Select Treasury Indices.
• Mutual Funds: an academic-standard database of both active and inactive mutual funds. The CRSP Survivor-Bias-Free US Mutual Fund Database serves as a foundation for research in and benchmarking for this asset class.
• CRSP/COMPUSTAT Merged Database: allows for concurrent database access to CRSP’s stock data and Compustat’s fundamental data. The CRSP Link accurately maps complex, many-to-many relationships over time between CRSP’s unique permanent identifiers, and Compustat’s unique permanent identifier. This link permits the seamless time series examination of CRSP and of Compustat companies and securities side by side, regardless of CUSIP or ticker changes.
