Skerdilajda Zanaj is a Full Professor of Economics at the University of Luxembourg. She holds a PhD in Economics (2008) from CORE, University Catholique de Louvain and the Università degli Studi di Siena. Before joining the University of Luxembourg, she was a Marie Curie Fellow at CORE, University Catholique de Louvain.
Skerdilajda Zanaj's research agenda bridges microeconomics with public and international economics. She employs theoretical game settings and uses panel data sets (both micro and macro) to understand better interactions among states, the strategic decisions of green and brown firms, or the decision-making of ethnically diverse groups.
Her papers cover the areas of fiscal competition, fiscal federalism, migration, cultural norms, the environment, and gender. Her research generates insights that contribute to economic theory and provides policy recommendations.
She teaches Microeconomics, Applied General Equilibrium, Game Theory, the Economics of Gender, Mathematics for Economists, and International Public Economics.
Since 2019, she has been the Gender Equality Officer at the University of Luxembourg. She is a promoter and advocate of gender equality in academia because a gender-diverse research team enhances research's scientific quality and social relevance. Her work has led the University to reach the milestone of validating a Gender Equality Policy in May 2021.
