Vinicius Jobim Fischer studied psychology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) where he received his Diploma as psychologist. He then obtained a Master in Sexological Sciences, with specializations in Clinical Sexology: treatment of individuals and couples and in Sex Education and Counseling in 2017 from the University of Almería (Spain) with a thesis entitled “Adolescent Health Handbook in Brazil: an analysis of sexuality contents”. He is a certified Psycho-Sexologist by the European Society of Sexual Medicine (ESSM) and the European Federation of Sexology (EFS) and member of the Spanish Society for Sexological Interventions (SEIS, International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) and European Society of Sexual Medicine (ESSM).
He joined the Research Group “Self-Regulation and Health” at the Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences in May 2018 and, after a successful application for an AFR-FNR Ph.D. scholarship, he is currently working on his doctoral research project entitled “Sexual Health and Emotion Regulation: investigating a reciprocal relationship” (SHER), under supervision of Prof. Dr. Claus Vögele.
The aim of the research is to investigate the role of emotion regulation in both sexual dysfunctions and sexual satisfaction. The project intends to contribute to the field by 1) investigating the associations between emotion regulation and sexual health, and by 2) developing and evaluating an intervention protocol designed to improve emotion regulation skills for people with sexual dysfunctions. Since the aetiology of sexual dysfunctions may involve physiological, affective, interpersonal and psychological factors and given the central role of emotions for satisfaction and sexuality, it seems essential to establish the role of emotion regulation for sexual health.
