About the Project
While milimeter wave (mmWave) band mobile communications are seen as a solution to the continuously increasing traffic demand in modern wireless systems, they usually require large antenna arrays to achieve satisfactory performance. Thus, they cannot support fully digital transceiver designs due to high demands in hardware complexity and power consumption. To that end, the aim of ECLECTIC is the development and the evaluation of efficient low complexity and/or low power consumption MIMO transceiver architectures. Solutions based on hybrid analog/digital architectures, low resolution ADCs/DACs and symbol level –directional modulation approaches will be examined. Furthermore, the proposed architectures will be extended to specific 5G use cases, such as cognitive radio, relay and satellite networks and multi-cast multi-group transmissions. ECLECTIC aims also at the experimental evaluation of the proposed techniques in the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) platforms in order to identify and solve practical problems and examine the performance of the proposed approaches under realistic conditions, as well.
