Application

Admission requirements

Applicants need to have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (180 ECTS) in Economics or Finance.

All applicants whose native language is not English need to be able to demonstrate proficiency of English at B2 level (compulsory), (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR)

Language levels should be documented by candidates in the following ways:

EITHER:

University degree (Bachelor or Master level) certifying the completion of a programme in which the teaching language was the one that is used in the chosen programme at the University of Luxembourg

OR:

Internationally recognised test certificate (no more than 1 year old) to justify the proficiency in the teaching language(s) of the chosen study programme at the University of Luxembourg, that corresponds at least to B2 level.

OR:

Certificate from employer whose language of work corresponds to the teaching language(s) of the study programme chosen at the University of Luxembourg.

Students wishing to study elective courses in French will need to provide proof of proficiency on a case-by-case basis. The University of Luxembourg offers language classes through the Language Centre (ULLC).

Application file

As part of the application process, prospective students will need to supply the following documents:

to enter in M1:

• Full Bachelor (or other) degree transcript, incl. an official English translation if the original is not in English.
• Undergraduate diploma or other confirmation of completion (if diploma not yet available), incl. an official English translation if the original is not in English
• Curriculum Vitae
• Motivation letter/personal statement
• Additional documents, such as copy of passport or identity card, photo, etc. may be required by the student services department (SEVE)

The program is on a full-time basis. It is not offered on part-time or online.

 

to enter in M2:

• a 4-year BA degree in the field with 240 ECTs
• a 3-year BA and 1-year Masters in the field achieving 240 ECTs
• a specific and strong motivation for the chosen track
• in addition, the applicants have to provide information how they achieved the learning outcomes at M1 level in the previous course of studies or during professional work. Thus, applicants need to supplement the admission file by providing the description of relevant modules/courses including the learning outcomes.

Selection process

The application file is assessed by the Admissions Board. Applicants are evaluated and selected on the basis of the application criteria to the MSc in Finance and Economics in general. (adequacy of the applicant's educational or professional profile with expectations, including the applicant's academic background, academic level assessed on the basis of transcripts (average, student rank if applicable), a strong motivation as demonstrated in the applicant's cover letter.

For M2, if the number of eligible applicants exceeds 20 (numerus clausus) per track, you will be placed on a waiting list ranked according to merit.

Assessment criteria include:

• Existing knowledge, skills and competences acquired during undergraduate degree
• Academic record and grades achieved
• Motivation, extracurricular and other supporting activities, commitment to higher education and learning

We will evaluate the files after the deadline for submission and therefore prospective students should not expect any answer before mid-May.

Student visas

Non-EU/EEA students are advised to consult the student services department (SEVE) application page, which includes information about the visa application process (see point four in particular).

The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance recommends non-EU/EEA applicants to:

• Consult their local Luxembourg consular office or other competent authority for complete information on visa application requirements and documentation needed;
• Allow at least three months for the completion of the visa application procedure;
• Plan sufficient time for obtaining some of the required documentation. E.g. the issuing of a police record can take several week/months depending on your country of residence;
• Read carefully and follow the steps outlined by the SEVE application page regarding the validation of non-EU/EEA issued academic degrees and diplomas.

Fees & funding

The programme levies a €200 per semester administrative fee

The University of Luxembourg does not provide financial assistance to applicants.

Luxembourg nationals and non-nationals who have lived in the country for more than five years/are children of parents employed in Luxembourg may be eligible to apply for a financial assistance provided by the Luxembourg government.
