Asteroid Day is an educational and awareness programme aimed to inform the world about asteroids: how they form, their role in our solar system and how we can protect our planet from impacts. To mark the anniversary of the 1908 Tunguska impact, Asteroid Day is held on 30 June every year, with events being independently organised around the world. In Luxembourg, the program will be run by the Asteroid Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation. The programme’s events are designed for people of all ages and are mostly accessible free-of-charge.

Thanks to its partners and supporters, including The University of Luxembourg’s SnT, Asteroid Day has made significant strides in educating the world about asteroids.

From 1 June – 4 July, you can learn about asteroids on Asteroid Day TV. Original films will be shown, as well as series, family learning programmes and featured virtual events from around the world. The Asteroid Day LIVE Programme on 30 June will include interviews with key personnel from the missions of yesterday and tomorrow.

During the LIVE event, SnT's Prof. Miguel Angel Olivares Mendez will be participating as a speaker. In his talk, he will discuss how the LunaLab was created – including the lessons that are being learned from the simulated environment – how important robotic technology will be to the future of space exploration, as well as how resources that have been found on the moon might be used in the future.
