Johannes Sedlmeir formerly was a PhD student at the University of Bayreuth (Germany) and joined SnT in October 2022. He studied the energy consumption and performance characteristics of cryptocurrencies and enterprise blockchains. He also explores solutions to the excessive transparency that inhibits many applications of blockchains in enterprises and the public sector, for instance, zero-knowledge proofs. Besides, Mr. Sedlmeir has a research focus on decentralized digital identities (“self-sovereign identity”) – a field that is strongly connected with blockchains but that has evolved to a separate topic in research and applications. Johannes joined the Digital Financial Services and Cross-Organizational Digital Transformations research group, FINATRAX, headed by Prof. Gilbert Fridgen.
