Orestis was born and raised in Greece and has spent the past six years of his life in central Europe. His background is in applied mathematics, primarily in mathematical optimization, and to a lesser extent, in machine learning. He received his B.Sc. in Mathematics from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (2012) and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics (2018) from ETH Zurich. He has worked in the private sector as a data analyst for Greek insurance companies and as a data scientist at the Swiss Economic Institute in Zurich for two years.
His research interests primarily concern the technical aspects of each component of blockchain technology, with emphasis on those that impact blockchain performance, such as Layer 2 solutions, Rollups, and sidechains. In addition, he always tries to stay up to date on the latest developments in integer/mixed-integer mathematical optimization.
His research at the University of Luxembourg revolves around Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) and their performance as well as Decentralised Finance (DeFi).
