Reilly Smethurst is an Australian-born academic. He currently works for the University of Luxembourg’s FINATRAX Group and contributes to non-positivist sub-fields of Information Systems research. In 2021, he was a guest researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics and a Visiting Fellow at the Queensland University of Technology’s Digital Media Research Centre. Previously, he worked as a lecturer in the fields of Music Technology and Digital Media. Griffith University (Australia) nominated his Music PhD for the 2018 Chancellor’s Medal; Auckland University (New Zealand) awarded him a Master degree with First Class Honours in 2012; and at the end of his Bachelor period, Griffith University awarded him the Music Technology Medal.

Together with colleagues from FINATRAX, Reilly conducted an international interview study for Luxembourg’s Ministry for Digitalisation about the prospective use of verifiable credentials for public services. The interview study involved over 40 people that work with physical and/or digital credentials, such as academic diplomas, staff ID cards, and driving licences. Reilly was also involved with the University of Luxembourg’s digital diplomas trial, conducted under the banner of EBSILUX.

Reilly is advised by Professor Dr Gilbert Fridgen.
