Wallace A. Martins received his DSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, Brazil) in December 2011. He was with UFRJ from 2013 until 2022 as a tenured Associate Professor, and also worked as Academic Coordinator (Electronics and Computer Eng. undergraduate course) and Deputy Department Chairman (DEL/Poli/UFRJ) in the period 2016-2017.
Dr Martins is a member (Associate Editor) of the editorial boards for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters and for the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing. He is also an IEEE Senior Member.
He has been Visiting Researcher with the University of Notre Dame (USA, 2008), Université de Lille 1 (France, 2016), and Universidad de Alcalá (Spain, 2018). For over 15 years, he has been working in R&D projects with several multinational companies, including Nokia, HP Labs, GE, Siemens, Halliburton, etc.
He was the recipient of the Best Student Paper Award from EURASIP at EUSIPCO-2009, Glasgow, Scotland, the 2011 Best Brazilian DSc Dissertation Award from Capes, and the 2020 Best Paper Award from the Brazilian Telecommunication Society at SBrT-2020, Florianópolis, Brazil. Other significant achievements include: coauthor of the Matlab toolbox on adaptive filtering with more than 32,000 downloads; awarded with the Got Energy Talent fellowship from the Universidad de Alcalá (Spain, 2019) in the context of the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions; awarded with the Productivity Scholarship (Brazil, 2016 and 2019) by CNPq (a Brazilian research council), which is a prestigious national award comprising a salary top-up during 3 years; awarded with the Young Scientist Scholarship (Brazil, 2016 and 2019) by Faperj (a Brazilian research council), which is a prestigious regional award comprising monthly research stipend during 3 years; awarded with Cum Laude degree in the B.Eng. in Electronics (UFRJ, 2007).
Summary of academic productions/supervisions:
- 1 patent.
- 3 books and 2 book chapters.
- 39 journals and 50 conference papers.
- 3 finished PhD, 8 MSc, and 19 BEng student supervisions (as the main supervisor).
For further details about his academic productions/supervisions, refer to his Google Scholar page, his personal webpage at UFRJ, or his CV.
Dr Martins has attracted over 300,000 EUR of research funding as PI, and has co-authored project proposals that were granted over 1,000,000 EUR.
In 2019, Dr Martins joined the Signal Processing and Satellite Communications group, SIGCOM, headed by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas.
