Bachelor en Enseignement Musical

The Bachelor in Music Teaching is aimed at students who are passionate about music and wish to teach in a formal (e.g., conservatoires, music school) or non-formal (e.g., childcare, elderly home) educational context in Luxembourg or beyond.

Content of the programme

Students will be trained in the pedagogical, methodological and didactic aspects of music teaching and will become familiar with the different contexts and forms of formal, non-formal and informal music teaching.

Practical training is provided by the partner Conservatoires. Students must choose between one of the following three specialisations:

  • instrumental or vocal lessons (individual lessons)
  • solfeggio (musical training)
  • early childhood music education

Depending on the choice of specialization, the conditions for admission to the study program and the content of the courses offered by the conservatoires differ.

Furthermore, studies involve

  • independently acquiring and applying different teaching methods
  • completing compulsory internships during each semester,
  • spending a semester at a university abroad (mobility).

Courses are strongly student-centered, with a particular emphasis on individual supervision: students are assigned a personal academic tutor for the duration of their studies.

During each semester, students learn to put into practice the content learned during the internships, which vary in length and pedagogical focus. Fieldwork begins with an understanding of the specific learning and teaching contexts of music education and progresses towards the planning of long-term learning and teaching sequences. Pedagogical activities during the placements will be developed in cooperation with field instructors and university tutors

Structure of the programme

There is an alternation between different modes of learning:

  • teacher-centred (e.g., lectures)
  • student co-construction of knowledge (e.g., seminars, tutorials)
  • independent work (e.g., individual courses);
  • pedagogical projects (with tutorials);
  • fieldwork (with tutorials);
  • professional development portfolio;
  • online activities.

Admission requirements

  • hold a Luxembourg secondary school diploma, or a foreign diploma recognised as equivalent to the Luxembourgish diploma
  • language skills: English level C1, oral comprehension and expression of the three official languages of Luxembourg (Lëtzebuergësch, French and German) is an advantage
  • musical skills: depending on the course of study specialisation, candidates must submit a file containing diplomas, certificates or other proof of achievement. In the absence of the required diplomas, candidates will have the possibility to present themselves during an audition and a written exam. + More information
