On 21 December 2016, the Luxembourgish Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Romain Schneider, and the Rector of the University of Luxembourg, Prof. Rainer Klump, signed a financing agreement for an inter-university cooperation between the University of Luxembourg (Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance) and the National University of Laos (Faculty of Law and Political Science) located in the Laotian capital, Vientiane.

The agreement aims to support advanced teaching in the field of law, teacher training, documentation and research, while strengthening university governance and local structures. The offer of law courses - with an emphasis on international and European law and international criminal law - will also help to strengthen the country's good governance.

Within the framework of the convention, regular inter-university exchanges will be set up for master and PhD students, researchers and administrative staff, for example in the form of teaching and research visits and administrative internships. The agreement is valid for an initial period of five years.

A similar agreement was established in July 2015 between the University of Luxembourg and the  Université des sciences juridiques et politiques (USJP) as well as the Université des sciences sociales et de gestion (USSG) in Bamako, Mali, in the fields of law and economics.
