André Losch, an important Luxembourg figure in business and philanthropy and an avid supporter and friend of the University of Luxembourg died Thursday morning, 24 March, at the age of 81. Through his foundations, the “André et Henriette Losch Foundation” and the “André Losch Foundation”, he has left an enduring legacy in the Grand Duchy supporting various important causes, especially those related to the well-being of children. In recent years, he has shown great interest in the University’s biomedical research, notably at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), and has generously supported this research. Earlier this year, the “André et Henriette Losch Foundation” donated a customised van to the LCSB, which allows nurses and researchers to reach patients participating in the Luxembourg Parkinson’s study NCER-PD more easily. “It is important that we think about the people who have been less fortunate than us, and that we do whatever we can to lend them a helping hand and reduce their suffering,” said André Losch at a recent event during which the Parkinson’s van was first presented to the LCSB. In addition to helping people in need, André Losch fervently believed in the importance of the University of Luxembourg for the future of the country. In that context, he decided to make the largest donation that any of his foundations ever have made: A 12 Million EUR donation to the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance for the construction of an amphitheater on Kirchberg Campus bearing his name. The construction is planned to start in 2016. “I thank André Losch for his exemplary philanthropic commitment towards the University. The new amphitheater that will bear his name will honour his memory and legacy,” says Prof. Rainer Klump, the president of the University of Luxembourg. |
