During a visit of Prof. Tomáš Zima, Rector of Charles University in Prague to the University of Luxembourg on 31st May, both institutions have reaffirmed their willingness to cooperate by signing a new agreement on scientific and educational cooperation. Charles University and the University of Luxembourg have been partner universities since 2013, when a first agreement between the two institutions was signed on the occasion of the University of Luxembourg’s 10th anniversary. Historical ties between Charles University and Luxembourg, however, are much older, as Charles University was founded in 1348 by Charles IV, of the House of Luxembourg, son of John the Blind. The new agreement that was signed on Belval Campus in the presence of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Luxembourg. H.E. Mr. Petr Kubernát, foresees student and staff exchanges as well as joint research activities. Such activities are in particular foreseen in the fields of History, European studies, Germanic studies, Psychology, Education, Law and Computer science, for which specific annexes to the agreement have been established. Currently, 2 incoming students from Charles University study at the University of Luxembourg and 3 students from the University of Luxembourg carry out their mobility term at Charles University. Charles University is one of the oldest universities in Europe and currently counts 17 different faculties and over 50,000 students.
