Interested scientists, researchers and science communicators can find theoretical knowledge as well as practical tips on science communication in this new publication of the University of Luxembourg.

Developed in the frame of the Doctoral Education in Science Communication (DESCOM) project, this  guide gives an introduction into science communication, the importance of building trust and knowledge as well as clearly defining the audience and goals. Readers can also find chapters on stakeholders, core messages, language, strategy, organisation and brand building as well as basic information on different channels of science communication, amongst others websites, events, social media and videos.

The pocket guide of 56 pages was written by Dirk Hans, the lecturer of the DESCOM Science Communication Course. Although the publication reflects the course contents, it is written in a way so that readers can easily understand it without taking the course. The Pocket Guide thus serves as an introductory read for everyone who wants to get started in science communication.

DESCOM’s pocket guide can be downloaded for free via This dedicated subpage also contains recommendations for further readings with links to the respective book at the Luxembourg Learning Centre. In the future links to further publications may also be added to this knowledge database.

DESCOM is supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). DESCOM aims to support interactions between academia and the public by providing different modes of training in science communication as well as organising and supporting outreach activities.
