UniTalks - Connecting with the University Community

During the UniTalks session, Prof. Roman Kräussl, Full Professor within the Department of Finance (FDEF) and Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, will present his research on gender bias and pricing in art which was recently published as a paper in The Review of Financial Studies with co-authors Renée Adams (University of Oxford), Marco Navone (University of Technology Sydney) and Patrick Verwijmeren (Erasmus School of Economics and University of Melbourne). Prof. Skerdi Zanaj, the gender equality officer of the University of Luxembourg, will introduce into the topic of gender equality and gender bias.

Learn more about:

  • How empirical data shows differences in the prices that artworks fetch at auction, depending on the artist’s gender.
  • How experimental data shows that works by female artists, or perceived to be by female artists, command less appreciation from certain segments of the population.
  • What can be done about reducing this gender bias in the art world.

Prof Roman Kräussl is a Full Professor in the Department of Finance at the FDEF. His research focuses on Alternative Investments, including art, private equity and infrastructure. His work has been featured in The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times and others.

Skerdi Zanaj is an Associate Professor in the Economics Department. Her research focuses on international economics, the economics of culture and migration. As the Gender Equality Officer of the University, she promotes and advocates for gender equality.
